Guess what? Today I got this checklist for our trip to Manjukudi in India! It's not your usual vacation checklist though—this one's all about getting ready for an amazing adventure with the Global Youth Leadership Program!
So, it's a two-week trip, but it's not all fun and games. We've got some serious stuff to do, like preparing lesson plans for the kids at the local school. It sounds like a lot of work, but I'm up for the challenge!
The checklist says we need specific clothes and accessories. I wonder what kind of clothes they mean? Maybe something comfy for teaching and maybe something for exploring the village too. And accessories? Maybe teaching tools or something cool like that.
Oh, and get this: we have to visit the doctor too! Not because we're sick, but just to make sure we stay healthy during our trip. Mom says it's important so we don't get sick on the way. I guess it makes sense.
But here's the big shocker: the trip costs $5,000! No, it's not a vacation package. This money covers everything—like where we stay, how we get around, and even a donation to help out in Manjukudi. At first, I was a bit nervous about all the money stuff, but then I realized it's going to an awesome cause. Plus, it's an adventure I'll remember forever!
So, I'm putting all my nervous energy in a box (well, not literally) and starting to pack. Mom and I sat down to make a list of what I'll need. We figured I'd need sturdy clothes for the day-to-day activities—maybe some jeans and T-shirts that can handle a little dirt from playing with the kids. Oh, and comfortable shoes! Can't forget those, especially if we're going to be walking around a lot.

Dad suggested I bring a hat and sunglasses for the sunny days. He said the sun in India can be really strong, and I don't want to get sunburned. I've also packed a backpack with some notebooks and pencils. Who knows, maybe I'll need to jot down some ideas for the lessons I'm going to teach.
Speaking of lessons, I've been thinking about what I want to teach the kids. I think I'll do something about science—maybe a cool experiment with water or plants. Mia, one of the other volunteers, said she's going to teach them about stars and planets. How awesome is that?
Mom also reminded me to pack some snacks for the long flight. She said international flights can be really long, and the food might not be what I'm used to. I'm thinking of bringing some of my favorite granola bars and maybe some dried fruit. Can't go wrong with those!
As for the doctor's appointment, I went yesterday. It was just a check-up to make sure I'm healthy and ready to go. The doctor gave me some tips on staying safe while traveling—like washing my hands a lot and drinking plenty of water. I think I'm all set!
I'm getting more excited by the day. It's not just about the trip anymore; it's about the adventure, the learning, and the chance to make a difference. I can't wait to meet the other volunteers and see what life in Manjukudi is like. Stay tuned for more updates as I get closer to flying off to India!
